Extruded Aluminum Model "EX" Vent
We manufacturer several types of aluminum louvered wall ventilators for ventilating crawl spaces or crawlspaces, ceiling plenums, chimney flues, foundations, pipe spaces, and other conditions. These ventilators are typically installed in masonry walls and include crawl space ventilators or crawlspace ventilators. Both extruded and cast aluminum ventilators are provided. Accessories include insect screens, ducts, dampers, and inside registers.
This guide specification section can be used to specify Model EX, an extruded aluminum wall ventilator. Model FL, a flanged extruded aluminum wall ventilator can be specified with SECTION 10236 - EXTRUDED ALUMINUM FLANGED WALL VENTS. Cast aluminum wall ventilators, Model C, can be specified with SECTION 10237 - CAST ALUMINUM WALL VENTS.
The specifier will need to edit this product specification for a specific project to reflect the options and applications being used. The guide section has been written so that most editing can be accomplished by deleting unnecessary requirements. Options are indicated by [ ]. Notes to assist the specifier in selecting options and editing the specification guide are printed in bold and indicated with. For final editing, all brackets and notes will need to be deleted from the guide.

A. Type: Extruded aluminum wall ventilator with insect screen [opposed blade adjustable damper] [duct extension] [and] [inside register]; Model EX.We provides ventilators in stock sizes ranging from 8-1/8 by 2-3/8 inches (206 by 60 mm) to 48 by 7-3/4 inches (1219 by 197 mm). Refer to product literature for available stock sizes. Extruded ventilators can be custom fabricated to other heights and any width to 8 feet (2438 mm) without exposed mullions. Depth of extruded aluminum ventilators without flanges is 4 inches (102 mm). Some extruded ventilators are load bearing depending on size.
B. Nominal size: [4 inches] [102 mm] deep by [_____] [inches] [mm] wide by [_____] [inches] [mm] high.
C. Construction: Framed ventilator without flanges and with overlapping horizontal louver blades fabricated from extruded aluminum sections.2.4 ACCESSORIES1. Louver blades: Fixed, horizontal blades [1 inch] [25 mm] deep set at 45 degrees at [1 inch] [25 mm] on center. Top of blade formed with storm drip.D. Insect screen: 18 by 14 mesh aluminum screen set behind louvers in extruded stop on frame.
Model EX ventilators can be equipped with opposed blade damper. Include this paragraph if dampers are required.
A. Dampers: Equip wall ventilators with opposed vertical blade damper set behind horizontal fixed louver blades and operable from exterior with screwdriver. Provide cutout in bottom louver blade for screwdriver adjustment of damper.Model EX ventilators can be supplied with straight aluminum rectangular duct extension to accommodate thickness of wall in which ventilator is installed. Include the following paragraphs if duct extensions are required.
B. Duct extension: Provide wall ventilators with straight, rectangular duct extension to attach to ventilator and extend through wall.Width of duct will be 1/4 inch (6 mm) greater than ventilator width and 1/8 inch (3 mm) greater than ventilator height. Length of duct extension will vary with thickness of wall and project conditions. Length may be specified in this section or dimensioned on Drawings. To eliminate potential conflicts, length should not be indicated in both locations.1. Fabricate from sheet aluminum and securely attach to ventilator with fasteners of type, size, and spacing as recommended by manufacturer.
Model EX wall ventilator can be supplied with an optional inside aluminum register. Registers are not attached directly to ventilators but are shipped loose for field attachment. Depending of project conditions, registers may be attached to duct extensions or installed to interior wall face. Include the following paragraph if inside registers are required.2. Size: Width and height to accommodate ventilator size by [[_____] [inches] [mm]] long.] [length required to penetrate wall.] [length indicated on Drawings and approved shop drawings.]
C. Inside registers: Provide wall ventilators with inside register to be field attached to [duct extensions] [inside face of wall].
2.5 FACTORY FINISH1. Type: Aluminum register with individual adjustable vanes and multi-blade damper.
Standard finish for extruded aluminum wall ventilators is a clear anodized finish. As an option, medium and dark bronze anodized, thermoset (baked enamel), and Kynar finishes are available.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
Depending on size, some extruded aluminum wall ventilators are load bearing. Other sizes may require supplementary framing or lintels. Contact Industries for loading bearing capacities of extruded ventilators.
A. Coordinate supply of ventilators with construction of walls to ensure proper sizing and placement of ventilator openings. [Ensure that adequate framing and lintels are installed in accordance with [Section 05100 - Structural Metal Framing] [_____].Typically extruded aluminum wall ventilators are built into wall with mortar as clay brick or other type of masonry is laid.
B. Coordinate provision of wall ventilators with construction of masonry walls. Deliver ventilators to site in time to allow building into masonry wall and to avoid delays.3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install ventilators, [dampers,] [duct extensions,] [and] [inside registers] in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions and approved shop drawings.Include the following threeparagraphs if ventilators are to be built into masonry walls.
D. Build ventilators into wall with mortar as part of masonry construction specified in Section [04800 - Masonry Assemblies] [_____].Include the following paragraphs if ventilators are to be installed in rough openings after wall is constructed.
G. Install ventilators in wall openings after walls are constructed in accordance with Drawing details and approved shop drawings.
3.3 CLEANING1. Secure ventilators with clips attached to rear of ventilator and anchored to perimeter of wall opening.
A. Exercise care in removing mortar and cementitious materials from aluminum ventilators in order to avoid scratching. Splashed mortar or cement plaster shall be cleaned from ventilator with dry burlap wipe. Remove after material becomes hard enough not to smear but prior to set.
