We manufacturer several types of aluminum louvered wall vents for ventilating crawl spaces or crawlspaces, ceiling plenums, chimney flues, foundations, pipe spaces, and other conditions.  These vents are typically installed in masonry walls and include crawl space vents or crawlspace vents.  Both extruded and cast aluminum vents are provided.  Accessories include insect screens, ducts, dampers, and inside registers.

This guide specification section can be used to specify Model EX, an extruded aluminum wall vent.  Model FL, a flanged extruded aluminum wall vent can be specified with SECTION 10236 - EXTRUDED ALUMINUM FLANGED WALL VENTS.  Cast aluminum wall vents, Model C, can be specified with SECTION 10237 - CAST ALUMINUM WALL VENTS.

The specifier will need to edit this product specification for a specific project to reflect the options and applications being used.  The guide section has been written so that most editing can be accomplished by deleting unnecessary requirements.  Options are indicated by [   ].  Notes to assist the specifier in selecting options and editing the specification guide are printed in bold and indicated with.  For final editing, all brackets and notes will need to be deleted from the guide.

D. Build vents into wall with mortar as part of masonry construction specified in Section [04800 - Masonry Assemblies] [_____].

E. Exercise care that wet mortar is not splashed onto aluminum vent during installation.

F. For vents greater than [30 inches] [762 mm] wide:  Do not mortar jambs.  Install with sealant and backer rod [as specified in Section 07900 - Joint Sealers].

Include the following paragraphs if vents are to be installed in rough openings after wall is constructed.
G. Install vents in wall openings after walls are constructed in accordance with Drawing details and approved shop drawings.
1. Secure vents with clips attached to rear of vent and anchored to perimeter of wall opening.

2. Seal around entire perimeter of vent with sealant and backer rod [as specified in Section 07900 - Joint Sealers].

3.3 CLEANING
A. Exercise care in removing mortar and cementitious materials from aluminum vents in order to avoid scratching.  Splashed mortar or cement plaster shall be cleaned from vent with dry burlap wipe.  Remove after material becomes hard enough not to smear but prior to set.

B. Remove excess sealant by moderate use of mineral spirits or other solvent acceptable to sealant manufacturer.

C. Wash exposed surfaces with solution of mild detergent applied with soft cloth.  Take care to remove dirt from corners.  Wipe surfaces clean.
